“For a long time it seemed to me life was about to begin- real life. But there...”
– -Alfred D. Souza A bit of motivation for the day. Life isn’t all about obstacles, but obstacles are about life. Live through them, but don’t be binded by them.

1 John 3:18-20
fishforpeople: Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. Our actions will show that we belong to the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before God. Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything.

Our lives, our cultures, are composed of many overlapping stories. Novelist Chimamanda Adichie tells the story of how she found her authentic cultural voice — and warns that if we hear only a single story about another person or country, we risk a critical misunderstanding. (via flygirls)

Hot Yoga
I started hot yoga recently at a place near home. It’s been challenging, but really really energizing and relaxing. Totally recommend it to anyone. The only thing is the price; I’m not really into getting a gym membership/ doing indoor exercise all the time (especially when we have really beautiful trails and space to run, walk, etc) with the exception of dance classes… really...

I got a job!
Yay! I’m really thankful! So today was my first day. I work retail now p/t and so far, so good. I also got called for another job (yay)- the only issue is I don’t know if I can take on both since both seem to want me to work afternoons/evenings. Also, I just started going to BSF this month and it seems like the retail position wants to schedule me the Mondays that we have bible study...

James 1:2-4
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Shaena Henry: Designers Bring Africa to Runways,... →
Hmm…. I know, political. But it does kind of parallel the larger issues of western-African relations (plundering natural resources, homogenizing Africa, asymmetrical benefits in business relations…) via Flygirls

fishforpeople: Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else.

Hilarious. Project Runway’s missing ep. from season II? I like the face the model makes when he eats the popcorn. If I was there, I wouldn’t have been able to keep a straight face. “Green is the new black” “No, brown is the new black.” “Green is the new black.” “Green is the old new black. Brown is the new new black.”

Job Wanted-- and Pay Would Be Nice →
This is pretty true nowadays. It seems everywhere you look, people wanted dedicated (and sometimes full time!) interns who will turn in great work…but no one wants to hire. Where I intern, most of the workforce is unpaid interns. Fortunately, because I care enough about the org., because it’s non-profit, and because we’re all making sacrifices, I’m not unsettled about...

“My life is not just about me or my stuff.”
– It’s really helpful to remember that. Then all those things I was worrying about grow dim and are displaced from the center of my life. Kind of makes me forget other’s needs.

Writing Letters
I really really like writing letters to friends.  When I have the patience, I like sitting forever drawing and writing. It’s really freeing. I’ve got more energy nowadays, so I think I’ll be more regular with the letter writing. oo thande

I really relate to the “freaking out” bit… Except now I like to think the “freaking out” has turned to “time-and-prayer-to-avoid-the-real-freak-out”. :)

How To Pick Someone Up at the Library
So my sister works at a library and today this guy came in and handed her a reference slip for a book he was supposedly looking for. She is perplexed by the 10-digit reference number. My sister: “Hmm… this reference number looks really different…” She looks up the author “William Lewis”. My sister: “I’m sorry, we have the author, but I...
