… now imagine you’re one of them. Can you make it through the month? That’s what playspent.org’s game asks you to consider as you navigate through difficult life and finance questions on your last $1000. Intense.
I’ve got personal finance/ economic empowerment on the brain these days- what with the Occupy Wall Street Campaigns and… these things:
Extreme Couponing (I just watched my first episodes today and while I was really fascinated, I did notice that the items people saved on most were not natural whole foods (but- I think I would like to experiment with this on simpler, but still commercial items like peanut butter and toilet paper).
Elizabeth Warren on the fallacy of “independent wealth”
…and all the ongoing Millenials/Unemployed-Underemployed Grads/ Generation Limbo/ etc. rhetoric.
And as I’ve been working on shrinking my own debt (student loans…), I’ve gotten a lot of perspective on financial freedom (thinking about what “zero debt” really means in the US- is home and auto debt still necessary?), budgeting, debt culture, and personal banking.
Sharing too. Thinking outside of oneself for those struggling in 14+ million here, and- don’t forget- the 13+ million abroad in the Horn of Africa currently in crucial need. There really is no shortage of places (and people!) in which to invest your talents and demonstrate love for others.
If these numbers mean anything, it’s that we have a whole lot of neighbors to love.
